Mile High Youth Corps’ Energy & Water Conservation program engages young adults in community education and residential efficiency services to conserve energy and water and help individuals save money on utility bills. Corpsmembers also receive professional development to pursue career opportunities, build skills, and advance into long-term successful careers in green industries.

You will receive

  • Biweekly pay in the form of stipends
  • Corpsmembers enrolled in the AmeriCorps national service program are eligible for an AmeriCorps Education Award (scholarship)
  • A 2-week program orientation and technical training program that prepares you for success during your service term

FAQs

A: Corpsmembers come from various backgrounds, education levels and work experiences. We encourage you to review the Climate Action and Climate Education Corpsmembers job description to understand specific Corpsmembers expectations, including high school diploma or GED, willingness to learn new skills, customer service ability, skills in collaboration and a strong commitment to serving their community. No previous experience in this field is needed. We will teach you everything you need to know!

A: Climate Action Corpsmembers schedule and complete energy and water retrofits for single-family residences and multi-family complexes. These retrofits help Denver area residents save money and reduce their consumption of water and energy resources. Corpsmembers are trained to install energy and water-saving measures in homes to help residents reduce their utility bills.

Climate Education Corpsmembers are liaisons between the community and the resources available to help them become more knowledgeable. As part of this role, Corpsmembers attend community events and meetings in representation of MHYC to share information and foster our relationship with the community and partners by assisting with food banks, community gardens, resident-led initiatives, and community cleanups.

A: Corpsmembers are provided with a wide array of personal and professional development trainings, including technical skills training for all aspects of your position. We work with a wide range of Corpsmembers with different levels of experience and provide everyone with the training they need to succeed in their position. We provide technical skills training specific to home efficiency retrofits, customer service, event planning, project management and community outreach. Additionally, we work with Corpsmembers to advance their careers beyond MHYC. We focus on industry recognized certificates and career exposure activities that help build skills and knowledge about careers in green industries.

A: MHYC operates in a modified work schedule. The schedule is 8:00 am – 5:30 pm Monday through Friday, with every other Friday as a day off, as well as federal holidays and most major holidays off.
